Sean's Thunderhwak again had many flights and is still flying today. C6-5 power. High altitude and streamer recovery
Fish and chips is a must at Largs. These must be the best in the world!!...The sunsets are not bad either.
Image below is me and Sean setting up the Mosquitos for a drag race. They fly on 3xD12-3 power each. Thay have flown well on E's too.
This year, only one of the rockets ignited. The one that launched crashed after the chute failed to open. Sadly no drag race this time with only one left!
Images below show the launch of each rocket. The second did deploy ok. The first one crahsed in!
The remains of the first Mosquito above after the chute failed to deploy. We still are not sure why it happed?
The Space plane above was a modified upscale version of a plan that I had (not sure where I got it from). My version did fly, but not very well. Maybe it was overpowered with 3 x D12 motors?? Sean again is the man on the button.....yes, he ducked! Space_plane.pdf
Image above shows me and and my son David gettting the spaceship ready for yet another flight. The first flight would not go according to plan as you will in the vidoe and images below. Sean is always the ginuepig when pressing the button!
What appears to have happened is that both of the nozzels in the D12 motors blew out a fraction of a second after ignition. The spaceship only went to the top of the rail before coming back down and setting fire to the pad and the space ship!
Image above shows the melted under side of the Pokemon spaeship. It would fly again!
Second flight was a complete sucsess. It looks a bit battered though!
David launched his Wizard on an I154 at the HPR site. Sadly the ejection was too early this time (not late as usual) and the nose cone came out and ripped the chute off with it. The nose cone drifted away and the rocket whistled in fast. Luckily the ground is soft and the rocket suffered little damage. It will fly again.
Sean flew his Level 2 Pheonix on a J330 and some outboard G motors ignited with an Ozark. The outboards for some reason fired late one after another. The rocket was powering into the hill side. The chute deployed about 100 feet above the ground and ripped the chute off as the rocket flipped around. It took until the next day to find the remains of the rocket on the hill side. The damage was little considering what happened.
A trip over to Cumbrea is always a must at the end of the meeting. It was a good IRW this year. Next year will be somthing else. I hope to fly my level 3 IRIS on full M power!!.See you all next year.
INTERNATIONAL ROCKETRY WEEK IRW2006 (LARGS, SCOTLAND)
Yet another IRW..!! My son and I arrived late Wednesday afternoon and set up camp. The weather was fantastic.

David launched his Estes Patriot quite a few times. This flies well and is reliable. Streamer reovery keeps it well within the flying field.
